Warning: If you think your activities are
being monitored, it’s probably true. Remember
abusers must be in control and hold power at all times. That
includes knowing their victim’s online and email
communications.
There are hundreds of ways that computers record everything
you do on the computer and Internet. It’s also
not possible to delete or clear all computer “footprints.” Plus, you
don’t need to be a computer programmer or have
special skills to monitor someone’s computer activities.
For these reasons we advise extreme caution and suggest
that it might be safer to use a computer in a public
library, at a community technology center, a trusted
friend’s house, or an Internet Café.
We have added a “Close Site Now” button
on each page of the CASA web site for privacy, not to
ensure safety from someone who might monitor your online
and email activities. For example you might want
to quickly close the site if you are working from a “safe” computer
in the library and a friend stops by to chat.
Please,
don’t depend on the “Close Site
Now” button to delete “footprints” that
can be traced by your abuser to the CASA web site. Your
abuser will know that you are reaching out for help and
your actions may further compromise your safety.
