CASA Mourns Advocate, Board Member
Randolph "Randy" Bernard Lewis May 4, 1959 - October 10, 2015
Recently, CASA (Community Action Stops Abuse) lost a wonderful advocate and Board Member in Randy Lewis. CASA’s mission is to raise our voices against violence through advocacy, empowerment and social change. Randy’s life work was social change – some obvious, some much more subtle.
Randy’s focus was the “C” in CASA – Community. He initially joined CASA’s Governance Committee, then became a CASA Board Member and publicly raised his voice, speaking on behalf of our services at various engagements including an appearance on ABC Action News. However, it was his personal leadership within our Community where he individually impacted our youth with domestic violence awareness and education. He once mentioned it was great that our Board included strong male representation, as he felt their voices would be important to include in order to influence other men to change their actions and attitude. He took this challenge seriously and worked tirelessly. He gave the Board the insight of a child, the insight of a sibling, the insight of a man and the insight of love to protect and cherish those to be held dearly.
Randy’s leadership within CASA helped us come steps closer to a community without domestic violence, so that home is a safe place. His work is not done, but his gift of example has been left for the rest of us to continue this work.
