Winner of 2014 Good 'Burger Award
August 28, 2014, St. Petersburg, FL | CASA (Community Action Stops Abuse) was announced the winner of the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce's second annual Good 'Burger Awards in the Community Service & Nonprofits category. The award recognizes organizations and individuals in greater St. Petersburg making a positive impact in our community.
"We were nominated along with many other fine and much larger non-profits, so this is quite an honor," said Linda Osmundson, executive director of CASA. The organization has earned many accolades of the years, including being named the 2014 Tampa Bay Business Journal's Best Nonprofit in the Crisis Resources category; and winning Judge's Choice in WEDU's Be More Encouraged awards in 2013.
The Good 'Burger award comes as CASA continues to enhance its ability to provide advocacy, foster empowerment and lead social change surrounding the issue of domestic violence. Construction of a new 100-bed emergency shelter for survivors of domestic violence has now begun, and the Sunshine & Hope Capital Campaign designed to meet the costs of construction and operating costs is under way. A related initiative called Sunshine, Hope & The Arts is engaging the area's arts community to help make the shelter a warm, inviting refuge.
CASA (Community Action Stops Abuse) has a vision of a community without domestic violence, so that home is a safe place. It's mission is to raise our voices against violence through advocacy, empowerment and social change.
