Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Shelley

Shelley has been volunteering with CASA in various ways. She assisted in cleaning units at CASA’s transitional housing building, built bunkbeds, volunteered at the thrift store, and recently became certified to work directly with survivors of domestic violence!
Tell us a little about yourself

I’m a pre-med student who just moved to St. Pete in January! I was looking for ways to become involved in the local community supporting causes that are dear to me, and it didn’t take me very long to find CASA! I look forward to the insight volunteering here will provide me as I move forward with my public stewardship.

Why do you choose to volunteer at CASA? What do you love the most about volunteering?

The core mission and goals of CASA are meaningful to me, both in a personal sense and because of my ideology; I believe that the greatest part of life is helping others, and building a sense of togetherness in the world. When it comes to what I love most about volunteering, I don’t have to think hard; the best part is the people! You really find the kindest souls helping at places like CASA.

What is your favorite experience or memory volunteering at CASA?

There’s still so many more experiences at CASA to have! But if I had to pick a really great thing so far, it’s that I have made some awesome new friends here. It can be a little daunting making friends in a new city, but I definitely feel like I’ve been welcomed with open arms. And then there’s always being productive and experiencing the gratification of quality work as the icing on top of the cake, of course!
